Milwaukee Ballet

Lobby

Concreteworks East was selected to team up with Catalyst Construction to create the Grand Curved Staircase that is the centerpiece of the newly renovated Milwaukee Ballet. With an eye toward stability and elegance, the designers selected stairs in our Nolita gray color for the over sized precast concrete stair treads and landing. The treads feature a integral backcut nosing and 3 abrasive traction inserts per tread. The treads were designed with a center underside void to conceal the steel structure supporting the treads.

Notice how the center staircase creates the focal point that gracefully connects the lobby to the second floor, bringing the eye upwards. The height of the space is accentuated while creating a seamlessly flowing connection between the floors. Special consideration, attention, and pinpoint accuracy needed to be applied to the fabrication of each individual stair and intermediate landing due to the curving of the staircase. The staircase is comprised of 24 individual steps and a landing that is made up of two separate pieces.

Get in touch

Working with custom architectural precast concrete is often a new experience for most designers, contractors, and homeowners.

Whether you are a designer in the early stages of design or a contractor in the bidding process, the Concreteworks East team would be glad to assist you.

Every project and application is unique though, so often the best way to collaborate is to have architectural drawings, sketches, or renderings prepared to send to our team.

This will help us understand the design intent and guide you through the possibilities along with preparing a quote.
